Purchasing a home or planning your estate are two of the biggest investments an individual can make. Ellen’s goal is to make those processes as stress free as possible for her clients.
Since beginning her practice in 2015, Ellen has closed over 3500 real estate transactions. With each residential real estate closing, she works closely with clients, real estate agents, builders, and surveyors to ensure that property is conveyed free and clear of any encumbrances at closing. She conducts title searches, procures all the documents necessary from lenders, obtains title insurance, and record deeds and other necessary documents. With an average of over 425 transactions annually, she knows that while the process for each closing may be similar, no two transactions are the same.
The same is true when planning your Estate – every client has their own unique needs. Ellen strives to create custom estate plans through the preparation of wills and trusts, and associated documents, such as revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, and living wills. Her real estate background further assists clients as they navigate how to transfer one of their biggest assets, their home, at death.
The majority of clients Ellen meets with have not prepared a will or legally named a guardian for their minor children. The reasons vary, but it’s often a combination of not wanting to think about an emotional painful subject, lacking the time and energy to get it done, or fearing that an attorney’s services will simply cost too much. As a mother of two small children, Ellen knows how busy life can be trying to balance work, family responsibilities, and children’s school and extracurricular activities. We sometimes procrastinate on doing the important things, like making sure our spouses and children are protected in the event of our incapacity or death. Families often assume they don’t have an “estate” worth planning or that their families will take care of everything if ever the need arises, but all clients, regardless of their net worth, need comprehensive estate planning to ensure their wishes are followed and their families are protected.
As a Denver Native and North Lincoln High graduate, Ellen finds it rewarding to assist her neighbors and see her community grow. In her free time Ellen enjoys spending time on Lake Norman, is an avid reader, and enjoys hiking in the NC Mountains. She also tries to make as many Davidson College basketball games (go ‘Cats!) and Carolina Panthers games as possible.
Ellen is an active member of the Denver and Lake Norman communities. She is Past-President of the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club (2021-2022). Previously she served as the Rotary Club’s Public Image Chair (2018-2021) and on the Club’s Denver Days Board (2018-2021). She also served as the President of the Lake Norman Young Alumni Chapter for Davidson College (2019- 2021). Ellen has been a member of the North Carolina Bar and Lincoln County Bar since 2015 and previously served as Vice President of the Lincoln County Bar (2016 – 2017). Ellen received her undergraduate degree in English Literature from Davidson College (B.A. 2012) and her law degree (J.D. 2015) from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg Florida.
